  • C1 Avanzado Uso del Inglés Parte 1 Cuestionario No 9

C1 Advanced Multiple-choice Cloze – test 9. Texto sobre el minimalismo como estilo de vida – sus ventajas y críticas. La prueba se centra en las idioms y expresiones fijas que a nivel C1 hay que conocer en su totalidad, y no palabra por palabra.

    C1 Advanced Multiple-choice Cloze – minimalismo e idioms

Las idioms en la Parte 1 suelen tener un hueco, y las palabras restantes sugieren qué expresión se trata. En este texto:

    • at the drop of a hat – sin dudar, en cualquier momento,
    • strike a chord – tocar una fibra sensible,
    • a means to an end – medio para un fin.

    ¿Cómo resolver?

Primero lee todo el texto para entender su sentido general, y solo después vuelve a los huecos. Ten cuidado con las palabras que significan lo mismo, pero requieren otra preposición o otra construcción – es una trampa típica en Use of English Parte 1 en el examen Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE).

Penúltima prueba de la serie C1 Advanced Multiple-choice Cloze – después de ella te espera la prueba más difícil, la 10.

For questions 1–8, read the text below and decide which answer best fits each gap. There is an example at the beginning (0).

For many people, minimalism began as a reaction (0) against the relentless consumerism of modern life. Its followers aim to (1) sus posesiones down to the bare essentials. Some take this to extremes, proudly announcing that they own no more than a hundred items, (2) ropa. Critics, however, argue that the movement has lost (3) de su original purpose.

Getting rid of possessions, they point out, is easy for those who can afford to replace anything at the (4) de un sombrero. Ironically, minimalism has itself become big (5), with books, courses and designer furniture. Nevertheless, the idea that less can be more clearly (6) un acorde with many people.

Clearing out clutter can bring a genuine sense of relief and help people get their (7) recto. The key, perhaps, is to see minimalism as a means to an (8) en lugar de a goal in itself. After all, owning fewer things is of little value if it does not lead to a richer life.
